Synopsis:
“The promise implicit in an anthology is that it aspires to present something different, unexpected” Joyce Carol Oates (Introduction to The Oxford Book of American Short Stories)

From the classical form of ‘The Weight of a Feather’, first published by The Huffington Post (2013), to the suggestive allegory of ‘The Leopard and The Lizard’, this collection of short stories by South African author Judy Croome is an ideal mix of the familiar and the startling.

These vibrant slices of life testify to the mysterious and luminous resources of the human spirit. Whether feeling the harrowing emotion in ‘The Last Sacrifice’ or the jauntiness of ‘Jannie Vermaak’s New Bicycle’, the reader will delight in a plethora of stories that cross boundaries to both challenge and entertain with their variety.

Book Review:
This is a short story anthology that includes 45 stories. Each story is one to a few pages longer. Each story, to me, was very touching. There are a wide range of emotions that the author shares with the readers. I felt that some of the stories had a message behind them; but that could of just been me looking for a deeper meaning and over analyzing. They are well-written and detail. This is definitely a book I will keep close by to re-read again.

I received a complimentary copy in exchange for an honest review.

  1. I love books period, but I especially like short stories when I am short on time. I can lose myself in one, without blowing off my responsibilities for the day. With a novel I tend to get lost in it, and not want to come up for air! This sounds like a nice anthology that I would put on my list!

  2. I think short stories are the way to go these days. Uplifting is grand, too. It seems like we're all collectively running short on time these days, doesn't it?

Thanks for the review. I never would know of this book otherwise!
