Helpful Tips for Getting Your Prom Corsage

Proms are a great time to look your very best and are full of celebration non-alcoholic punch and dancing.  But sometimes, it’s the little things that people take for granted, that are the most important.  Even though you may have your dress picked out and bought those pretty little shoes, a hair stylist and that date to take you by the arm; have you sorted your prom corsage yet?

If you haven’t and don’t know the first thing about this small, but nevertheless important accessory, then please read on as we give you 5 great tips for selecting the perfect one for the big day.

How Much Do They Cost And Who Pays?
Normally, it would be your male date that is expected to buy your corsage.  However, as it is important that your corsage matches nicely with your prom dress, you should at least offer help in choosing the one you want.  The general rule of thumb when it comes to cost is that you can expect it to cost around 10% of the dress’s price.

What Type or Color Of Corsage Should I Get?
Corsages come in various styles, however the important thing is that the color matches or contrasts the color of your dress.  The choice of color is only a small part when it comes to picking the right one though.  For starters, you need to decide how you are going to wear it and choose whether you want it to be on a pin or ribbon.  Secondly and rather obviously, you need to choose your flower.  But, after you have chosen your flower; pin, ribbon or bracelet, you then have the option to choose from a wide selection of accessories including bows, feathers, small sprays of flowers and many more.  The choice is limitless and up to you? Nowadays, though the emphasis seems to be on going big and flashy rather than reserved and subtle.

When Should You Buy It?
As has already been mentioned above, you need to make sure you have picked your dress out before you begin looking for your corsage.  Although you don’t need to arrange it months in advance, it is a good idea to get it done early.  You will pick it up on the day of the prom because it is a live flower arrangement and you want it to be as fresh as possible.

Do You Have To Wear It on Your Wrist?
The most common way to wear a corsage is on the wrist.  However, that does not mean that you have to.  It is more important to wear it where you feel most comfortable and what suits your dress best. Wearing it on the wrist is a very modern approach in fact, as traditionally it would be worn on the bodice of your prom dress near to your shoulder.  This would only make sense though if your dress had sleeves.  There is also the option as well to wear your corsage in your hair, as long as your hair style can accommodate it.

With all of the above in mind, the important thing about your corsage is that it looks good with your dress and overall outfit and it is worn where is most comfortable for you and where it will enhance your dress.  As long as you keep those few things in mind, it will be the perfect cherry on a cake of a dress.
